The Frick Art Museum Rotunda and Clodion Urn Ornament

This brass ornament is produced exclusively for the Frick Art & Historical Center. Highlighting both the architecture of The Frick Art Museum and an object from its collection, this ornament features the museum’s rotunda and its central element, the Clodion (Claude Michel, 1738–1814) Urn. This 18th-century carved marble urn was probably commissioned for the Palace of Versailles and combines the playful spirit of pre-revolution 18th-century France with Clodion’s neoclassical interests, perfectly complementing the graceful fluted columns, and symmetrical, neoclassicism of The Frick Art Museum.
