This brass ornament, produced exclusively for the Frick Art & Historical Center, features a Stanley Steamer car from the Frick's collection.
The Model R roadster was a smart, high-powered car for 2 to 4 people. The sale price of $1,350 included a choice of rear seats—a single or double rumble, a duplicate of the front divided seats, or a full undivided two-passenger seat. Speed was controlled by a throttle located on the steering wheel instead of gear changing. The roadster could achieve 60 to 70 miles per hour on a good road but was still able to run through city streets without danger of overheating or stalling.
